First-time homebuyers continuing to struggle

Survey shows that 33 percent of buyers are first-timers, well below traditional 40 percent.

High prices, student loans and intense competition continue to keep many first-time homebuyers on the sidelines, according to a new survey from the National Association of Realtors.

One-third of those who bought a home between July 2017 and June 2018 were first-time buyers, down from 34 percent a year ago and well below the traditional mark of 40 percent, according to the NAR’s 2018 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers.
