The BIA Foundation is focused on supporting development of the next generation of housing industry professionals.
The BIA Foundation annually awards scholarships to deserving high school seniors or students currently enrolled in college or post-high school training so they can pursue a career related to the construction industry. The BIA Scholarship Program encourages and promotes a qualified workforce for the building industry’s future. Since 1994, the BIA Scholarship Fund has awarded close to $175,000 to 135 students.
In addition, the Foundation has supported several other projects within the community:
Habitat for Humanity House:
In 2015, the BIA sponsored the building of two homes for Habitat for Humanity. Construction on the first home, partnering with Anheuser Busch and the Church of Resurrection as house sponsors, began in May. Located on Genesee Avenue in Columbus, this property became home to single mom Latiechea and her four children ages 14, 12 and 4 year-old twins. The first home was built by BIA member volunteers with many of the products donated by our members.
The second home was sponsored by the BIA but was provided to Ft. Hayes Career Center students to work on and learn the building trade.
Parade of Homes Foundation home:
Every year among the many stunning BIA Parade of Homes entries, one home stands out for its generosity as well as its beauty. We call it “The home with a heart”. The Foundation home builder for this year’s parade will be Bob Webb Homes.
This year, the BIA is partnering with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio and a portion of the proceeds from the Foundation Home’s sale benefit Habitat, as well as other charities, through the BIA Foundation.
Vendors, suppliers and trades who work on the Foundation Home help lower the cost of building it by generously donating or discounting their services and materials. Their goodwill ensures that more money from the sale of the Foundation Home will go directly to Habitat and other local charities.
